Terms of Service

Ustadi is a set of AI tools that help university lecturers prepare teaching and assessment material from their own documents, and student rooms where a tutor helps a lecturer's students with that course. Lecturers sign in with a Google account; students join a room with a code, their name, and registration number.

• Keep your Google account secure; you are responsible for what happens under your Ustadi account.
• Give accurate profile information, and only one account per person.
• You must be old enough to agree to these terms where you live, and at least 18 to buy a plan.

Ustadi produces drafts with an AI model. They can contain mistakes, omissions, or content that does not fit your course. You are responsible for checking and editing everything before you use it with students, in examinations, or in official documents. Ustadi does not replace your professional judgement or your institution's policies on assessment and moderation.

• You keep ownership of the documents you upload and the work you create. You give us permission to store and process them only to provide Ustadi to you and to the students in your rooms.
• Only upload material you have the right to use, such as your own notes or material your institution allows you to share. Do not upload other people's personal data unless you are allowed to.
• Drafts Ustadi produces for you are yours to use, subject to the rights of anyone whose material you uploaded.

• As the lecturer who creates a room, you decide which documents its tutor may use and you are responsible for telling your students how the room works and that it runs on Ustadi.
• The room tutor is designed to explain and coach, not to complete assessed work. Students must follow their institution's academic integrity rules, and must not use Ustadi to cheat.

Do not use Ustadi to:

• break the law or your institution's rules, or infringe anyone's rights;
• produce assessed work for students, or help anyone pass off AI output as their own where that is not allowed;
• upload malicious files, attack or overload the service, or try to reach other users' data;
• resell, scrape, or copy the service, or share one paid account between several people.

We may suspend accounts or rooms that break these rules.

• The Free plan is free. Plus and Pro are prepaid for the period you choose (a month, a semester of four months, or a year), in Kenyan shillings, by M-Pesa or card. Prices are shown on the pricing page before you pay.
• Plans do not renew automatically. When a paid period ends, your account returns to the Free plan.
• Paid plans include a number of credits and live-class minutes a month. Credits refill on the 1st and do not carry over. The 14-day trial runs once and includes no live-class minutes; its credits, and the Free plan's, are given once and do not refill. Bought live-class hours last a year from your latest purchase.
• Refunds are covered by our Refund Policy.

We work to keep Ustadi available, but it may sometimes be interrupted for maintenance or by problems with our providers. We may add, change, or retire features; if a change removes something you paid for during a paid period, we will offer a fair remedy, such as a pro-rated refund.

Ustadi is provided as is. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for decisions made using AI drafts, and our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under the Consumer Protection Act, 2012 that cannot be excluded.

You can stop using Ustadi at any time and ask us to close your account by writing to support@ustadi-ai.com. We may close accounts that seriously or repeatedly break these terms.

These terms are governed by the laws of Kenya. We will try to resolve any complaint with you directly first; if we cannot, disputes go to the courts of Kenya.

We will update the date above when these terms change, and tell you before significant changes take effect. Using Ustadi after that means you accept the new terms.
